Press Release
Apr 26, 2010 HI CORPORATION
HI Collaborates with NeoMtel on Developing a User Interface Solution "HIVE",
Facilitating the Development of User Interfaces with a Combined
2D Vector Graphics and 3D Graphics
HI CORPORATION (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO: Kazuo Kawabata; hereinafter "HI") announced today that HI has developed a user interface solution "HIVE" for embedded devices, collaborating with NEOMTEL CO, LTD. (Headquarters: Seoul, South Korea, CEO: Paul Kim; hereinafter NeoMtel) and has launched its sales.
HI has cooperated with NeoMtel in developing a solution "HIVE" that enables a fusion of 2D vector graphics and 3D graphics with the highest need for user interface development through combining HI's global standard 3D technology MascotCapsule® and NeoMteL's 2D technology specialized for 2D vector graphics.
The HIVE consists of a middleware that is the core of a graphics player on embedded devices and an emulator that runs on the computer.
On the HIVE development environment, it is possible to build user interfaces with a combined 2D vector graphics and 3D graphics through the same development method as 2D vector graphics on the computer, enabling the creation of a SWF file with embedded 3D animation. It is also possible to play such a SWF file on the embedded device. Supporting ActionScript, HIVE allows detailed settings for user interfaces.
Through this solution, the developer can give user interfaces a broader expression compared to those with only 2D graphics, allowing for the creation of enriched, sophisticated user interfaces with 3D graphics.

In addition, working with a 3D graphics accelerator supporting OpenGL® ES(*1), HIVE enables the high-speed rendering of 2D/3D graphics.
Provided with high flexibility of MascotCapsule, HIVE allows the developer to use model data created using commercial 3D tools such as Autodesk®, 3ds Max®, and Maya®. Its operating system supports Windows, Mobile®, Linux®, and Android™.
NeoMtel has developed 2D vector graphics and ActionScript while HI has developed 3D graphics in the HIVE engine (as shown above). Both companies will keep providing support for each technology.
HI is committed to collaborating with NeoMtel in marketing activities in order to promote the global development of this solution in the GUI(*2)market with an ever-increasing demand for embedded devices.
[ About MascotCapsule ]
MascotCaspule 3D rendering engine enables real-time processing of 3D graphics for applications running on a wide variety of embedded devices such as mobile phones. It can be implemented on any OS and platforms to create 3D expressions that are far more versatile than 2D, in the environment with limited resources. MascotCapsule product line-up consists of seven different engines to accommodate various hardware operating environments: MascotCapsule V1, V2, V3, V4, nano, eruption, and Renderion.
