HI CORP. and Sony Ericsson sign worldwide license for 3D rendering engine

HI CORPORATION (Head Office: Meguro-Ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Kazuo Kawabata, herein 'HI') announced today that the company has executed a worldwide license agreement with Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB (herein "Sony Ericsson") for its 3D rendering engine "Mascot Capsule Engine Micro3D Edition" (herein "Micro3D Edition").

Sony Ericsson is a joint venture between Sony and Ericsson focused on the mobile phone market, and delivers a full range of handsets to markets around the world. HI and Sony Ericsson have reached a worldwide license agreement in which HI has licensed to Sony Ericsson Micro 3D Edition for mobile terminals planned for manufacture and distribution around the world by Sony Ericsson in connection with JSR-184 (Java Mobile Graphics 3D API). The plan calls for supply of Micro 3D Edition Version 4, and includes support for OpenGL-ES.

Micro 3D Edition already enjoys the mainstream of mobile 3D usage in Japan, enabling operation of major titles such as Ridge Racer, Biohazard, I.Q, and Train to Go! 3D. Implementation of Micro3D Edition signifies the preparation of an environment for major content to operate around the world in the near future.

The first handsets implemented with Micro 3D Edition in accordance with the agreement are planned for launch in Q2 2004.
