3D Polygon Engine delivered to NTT DoCoMo "504i" handsets
May 21, 2002 (Tokyo, Japan)-HI CORPORATION (Meguro-ku; President & CEO: Kazuo Kawabata) and Bandai Networks Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku; President: Takeo Takasu) have received a decision affirming deployment of the Mascot Capsule Engine/Micro 3D Edition, a 3D polygon engine under joint development by the companies, to five cellular handset manufacturers of NTT DoCoMo ({in alphabetical order} Fujitsu, Ltd.; Matsushita Communication Industrial Co. Ltd.; Mitsubishi Electric Co., Ltd.; NEC Corp.; Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Co., Ltd.). License agreements have been executed severally between Bandai Networks and the manufacturers.
Mascot Capsule Engine/Micro 3D Edition, the 3D polygon engine developed by HI CORP. and adopted by the respective manufacturers at this time has a program memory size of approximately 60KB, a size which can be deployed on cellular handsets. This spectacular 3D engine software has no dependence on any specific hardware, and freely renders 3D polygon characters on cellular handsets.
The engine enables views selected from 360 degrees of freedom with simple keypad presses for character models drawn with polygons, as well as their reduction or enlargement. Moreover, light-source calculations enable subtle shading nuances as well as expressions of luster on objects for an even more realistic 3D rendering.
| Bandai Networks and HI CORP. have jointly developed entertainment content that fully incorporates these 3D engine features, and will successively roll out these services starting on May 24. |
